As a consultant, develops and implements strategies for advocacy and business development, leads strategic processes and provides advice to industry and provincial and municipal governments. Well-known within Alberta and other jurisdictions in Canada and the Western United States for leadership in Albertas Electricity Restructuring initiative that saw the introduction of North Americas first competitive power market on January 1, 1996 and the creation of the independent Transmission Administrator which evolved to the Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO). From 2003 to June 2005 responsible for the Alberta governments gas markets and utilities policy initiatives including Northern Gas issues and non-conventional gas development. Also led implementation of the Alberta Economic Development Authoritys Oil Sands Mega project report and a Cross-commodity Royalty Review. Responsible for the evolution of Alberta's electricity market into a fully competitive market on January 1, 2001 and subsequent refinements through to March 2003 when he moved to lead Albertas governments policy initiatives related to gas markets and gas utilities. A track record of working with politicians at both the provincial and municipal levels and with a diverse range of stakeholders. Presentations made to Caucus Committees and the Government Committees on Energy. Pro-actively and successfully worked with all levels of government to influence change. Represented Alberta on national and international forums, including the Western Interstate Energy Board (WIEB). WIEB provides advice to Western US and Canadian Governors/Premiers on issues affecting gas and electric markets. Represented Western Canadian provinces on the Western Governors' Association Clean and Diverse Energy Advisory Committee (CDEAC). CDEACs mandate is to present advice to western governors on how to meet clean energy and energy efficiency targets, including 30,000 megawatts of clean energy by 2015 in the Western United States. Both hydro and cogeneration options are being considered. Speaker at over 50 national and international conferences on topics affecting the electric and gas industries. Completed graduate programs (MSc in Business Administration) in business and policy development. Author and university lecturer on Human Resource Planning.
